Can you still unlock phones yourself? (iphone 7 - sprint)

My friend was given an iphone 7 that is registered with the sprint network. Would it have to be unlocked first before using it on ATT or Tmobile?

I recently bought a used iphone 6 that was bought through ATT (the person said). I have t-mobile as was able to just pop a sim in and it worked fine. HE claimed it was never unlocked - so not sure how it works with t-mobile.

Is there any way to unlock a phone other than calling the carrier that it was purchased at? I know a LONG time ago it was possible to unlock your iphone while jailbreaking, but that was back when the iphone 3g. Is this still possible?

you have to have sprint unlock it or buy one of thoes unlocking services on ebay.
if device has financing left on it i'm not sure if it'll work though.

iphone 6 would need to have been unlocked for you to use with tmobile more than likely it was unlocked by ATT or it's a verizon model.

So verizon models work on Tmobile without unlocking? Kinda confusing.

How do those ebay services work? They seem kinda shady. Not sure if the phone is still under contract...

You cant unlock yourself anymore? I had a clear memory of being able to unlock the phone back when I jailbroke the iphone 3G i had from way back. Like I said its been a while, so I could be wrong.

But anyways, that being said - the sprint version will NOT work on ATT or Tmo without unlocking correct?

Only Verizon phones are unlocked on day 1. Everyone else how ever will unlock it as long as the financing is paid off.

The online unlockers are dealers with access to the network, but you don't need them unless you like paying for free services.
