Where are you going? Here in the States and Canada and nearly anywhere else in the world, yes. In the UK, no.
 
there is only one exception that i know of and it's with Quantam Airlines. they won't let you use a dell laptop on battery power.

stinks tho if the laptop you have has a completely dead battery like my old one did. Wouldn't charge or power the laptop even for a second.
