Does anyone smoke cannabis who feels they are very successful and happy in life? Do any of you who are in college smoke cannabis regularly and still get good grades? Is it possible to smoke cannabis and still be smart and wealthy?

Trying to justify your actions? Or do you just want to fit in?

Yes, of course.

Can you drink alcohol and still be successful and happy?

Of course, but since it is illegal, you may be taking a lot of risk.
Make sure you don't have to pee for your job, etc...

I had a very good friend who partied with me ALL THE TIME. He was born VERY intelligent, and getting buzzed was not going to hold him back at all. He's VERY successful today, but doesn't smoke at all. Drinks only a bit during holidays and such. I quit about 6 years ago, and I think he quit about 10 years ago. That still left about 15 to 20 years of massive smoking... like three times per day, everyday!

Bottom line is, smoking weed has nothing to do with how you play your cards. It's a non issue. If you're a go-getter straight, you'll be a go-getter buzzed. I doubt it would work the same way with alcohol, though. Matter of fact, I don't see how it could!

I'm on the Dean's List and I smoke multiple times a week. Am I happy? I'm not sure about that, but trust me, it has nothing to do with weed.

I can't see why not.

I know a number of people who smoke each and every day and live normal productive lives. Like anything however, it's all about moderation.

Yes. A friend of mine is very smart, although he smokes pot on the weekends.

in Nevada right now, there are 3 billionaire philanthropists trying to pass the initiative making it unpunishable to carry under 1/2 oz. of marijuana. Out of these 3, 1 doesn't smoke (quit), 1 smokes occassionally, and 1 smokes daily. Obviously it's okay to smoke regularly and you can still do well, the question is if it's detrimental or not.

Actually, that is far from the truth. Marijuana affects different people differently. While a good friend of mine could smoke a joint all to himself and go play a high competitive game of basketball, pot always incapacitated me. I'm talking loss of coordination and dexterity (motor skills), and although I BELIEVED when I was high that it made me more 'intellectual', in reality I was rendered quite stupid and unable to think clearly. For instance, if I had to answer the following math problem:

"Johnny has $15 and Mary has $10. How much does Johnny and Mary have combined?"

My thought process while high would go something like:

"Ok, Johnny has $15. Ooooo, $15 is enough to buy two Little Ceaser's specials with crazy bread. Mmm...crazy bread. And sauce...mmmmm. Sauce is extra, though, I wonder if Johnny has enough to buy pizza, crazy bread, and sauce? Oh, right! Mary has $10 if Johnny doesn't have enough. I wonder if Mary is hot? Are Johnny and Mary doing it? But what if Mary was really ugly, would pretending to like her would be worth it just to get her to buy the sauce?"

30 minutes later, I would realize that I hadn't answered the question.

exactly.

for me though, i feel that i am fairly successful as a teenager in college. I have a well paying job, for this area anyway, and it isn't at Kmart or a fast food resturant. I get very respectable grades now, opposed to my D's in HS. personally, i am content with my life, i really can't think of much that i want right now, or need for that matter, i'm happy the way everything is right at this very moment. :)

what yeild said is very true. 'it's what you make of it all'

Sure, of course you can smoke pot and be successful! As long as you don't get busted, that is. A drug possession charge doesn't look good on a job application, and lying about it on a job application could get you into even bigger trouble.

Of course, if you're going into politics, you would be stupid to even think about doing drugs! It's easy enough for your political opponent to dig up dirt on you WITHOUT having a drug conviction on your record.

Anyway, good luck on your homework assignment! Perhaps I'm wrong, but this question looks like something out of a composition 101 class :D

IMO the answer to whether or not it's possible is an unequivocal YES. I personally know several people who are extremely successful and happy who could be described as heavy marijuana smokers. Then again, I also know people who dropped out of school in some part due to smoking too much pot.
So it definitely depends on the person, and I sure wouldn't advise it because it's illegal, but I think it is possible.

I smoke pretty regularly and am doing well as a bio/premed student in college. This may be in part to the fact that i dont drink too often so i wake up during somewhat regular hours on weekends (as opposed to the hungover majority of students) and i can smoke on weekdays and not mess myself up too badly
