Can you set software to a 5:4 screen (instead of 4:3)?

I'd like to use Photoshop and other imaging software set as 5:4. If I use 1280x1024 the picture sizing gets all screwed up because they're set for a 4:3 screen. (Hence I'm currently using 1280x960.)

Just wondering.
