If you buy a new PC or Laptop from Dell, and you don't need the OS, can you sell the license?

i believe CitizenDoug asked this question not too long ago, and a guy from Dell posted in the thread saying it is not possible.

No, it's an OEM license.

Edit: Actually I suppose you could if you sold them the computer too.

It is typically illegal to resell any software, as is stated in virtually every "terms of use" agreement I've ever read.

I think, you can resell the computer to someone but you must include the installation disk and the license must stay on the dell machine.

You can't just sell the licence with no computer.

You could do it if you never activated your windows to microsoft. The dell OS cd will work on any computer just it will ask for a product key and the product key will be located on the side of the computer. If the OS cd is installed on a dell computer it will not ask for a product key. This would not be legal but it would work.

You can refuse to agree to the software terms and return it to MS who will have to give you a refund. I'm not sure if you can still do this but it was a big deal when people wanted to buy systems and use them for linux but found it was pretty much impossible to get dell/gateway/hp/compaq to sell you a machine without an OS.
