Can you run a PIII 1GHz in a BX?

Has anyone been able to run anything higher than a PIII 800 without overclocking in a BX chipset mobo? What about the Apollo Pro 133/133A. If so, which brand mobo was used. I was under the impression that you could since the multiplier is locked anyway and as long as the mobo or slocket adapter supported the correct Vcore voltage.

I've got 6 mobos I'm working on.
Soyo - SY-6BA, 6BA+III, 6BA+IV, 6VBA 133
Aopen - AX6BC
ASUS - P3V4X

Not sure if you mean will the board handle a 8.5 or higher multiplier or if you can overclock higher in a BX mobo. They should have no problem handling the multiplier as long as you've got the latest bios flashes and the ability to adj vcore through mobo or slocket. I've got a celeron 566 running on a Aopen AX6BC at 850mhz (8.5x100) with an Iwill II Slocket. Should be able to use the 6BA+IV to O/C to a gig. I've got a 6BA+100 which is basically identical to 6BA+IV except it's ata-100 vice ata-66. Got my P3 700e up to 1008mhz. Don't know about the other SOYO boards. As far as Aopen, I've got an AX6BC, AX6BC Pro Gold and an AX6BC EZ. Aopen was my favorite board until I got this SOYO. Both the Pro and the EZ have the FSB selections to reach 1gig but the AX6BC only goes to a FSB of 133mhz and has no vcore adj. So I guess if you got a lucky P3 800e that will do a gig (8x133)on a sloket for vcore adj I'd say yes. Just put a rig together for my brother in-law with a P3 700e that will hit a gig but could only get 933mhz due to his mobo, an old Abit BH6 rev 1, much like the AX6BC. Don'know about the ASUS.

Sorry for the long winded answer. Hope it helps. Been lurking here for a while and finally decided to post. :)

Hi maap,

I really appreciate your reply. I can see you put quite an effort in order to help me. But, I'm afaid I didn't mean overclock higher than 800MHz. I meant, can I pop in an 850, 866, 933 or 1 GHz CPU?

I'm stuck in the old days with a Cel 300A@450MHz. I want to do one last upgrade and was hoping I could use a faster CPU (than 800MHz) for the computers I built for my friends and co-workers. I will definately try overclocking whatever I put in my system but, my friends and co-workers are not enthusiasts and have no idea what overclocking is and would prefer their systems not overclocked for stability reasons.

I recently flashed to the latest BIOS for a BE6 (has BX chipset) and the BIOS has options for multipliers for up to 12x.

I don't think it matters anyway because the board just reads the multiplier from the chip. Before I flashed the BIOS for the BE6 it gave an annoying error message when I put a chip in with a higher multiplier than it recognized, but it still ran fine.
