Can You run a case on its side with HDD running on side ?

I dont have much space would Running my HDD's Vertical do any damage ?

phpdog,

Shouldn't give you any problems or do any damage at all. HDDs can be run in any orientation as long as you don't move them around while they're running (they will precess like gyroscopes). I work on new builds all the time with the case on its side and run the rig that way to check it out.

My old old dell has the hard drive mounted vertically standing and it worked perfectly fine(....aside from it being a dell).

The only position that the Hard Drives apparently should not be running in is upside-down (label down).

The PCB should either be at the bottom or on the side.

Thats great news because my new mothboard has 8 sata ports for 8 x 750 Barracuda and and im planning on another 4 X IDE so i have 4 x 120 mm Fans to cool them down and Planning on a few more so i can run them at very low speeds low noise .

Cheers

Is this a server you're building? Or (glancing at your sig), do you just enjoy stuffing every available empty slot ?

some cases have an additional HDD slot, but its upside down. Are you sure its bad for it?

i.e. this case:

I believe Seagate manual recommends the installation with the PCB down, Label up.

Is it bad the other way...? There is a lot of moving parts inside, and gravity might have some adverse effect on the operation.

I have never tried, and probably won't...
