I'm thinking about picking up a Toshiba dvd rom, but the only strike against it for me seems to be the 2x dvd ripping limitation.

Can I rip dvd's with a cd burner instead?

TIA,

Sal

umm, no. but you could get a different dvd-rom. i have a shuttle, and besides the long delay before i can read anything i put in it, it rips and plays fine.

Get the pioneer 16x online for only $45 at most places. Great drive. If you want the slot load it will cost you $20 more.

There are some combination DVD-ROM/CDRW drives available. I know Ricoh makes one. You could rip DVDs from this I would imagine, but I don't know much about these things.
