Can you Retrieve email from other POP email in gmail? Like yahoo. Only found email forwarding to another email in gmail but no incoming email.

I doubt it, gmail would have to setup a system to allow you to configure their servers to poll external POP3 servers for mail which would be a pretty big hole if you ask me.

i really dont see any reason why they wouldnt/couldnt allow other pop server to be retrieve especially when yahoo mail allow it.

Maybe, if they only allowed you to enter 1 or 2 it would be feasible. I just don't see the point, it's not like it's difficult to download and foward the mail yourself if you really want everything in your gmail mailbox.

Other than being a pain in the arse 😛

well if you have a lot of mail, that would take a lot of time and be a real hassle... and secondly, forwarding the crap would show all of your mail being from you, you'd lose the ability to brows the mail by sender (that might not matter to you, but to some it could.. i know i like seeing the sender along with the topic in my email box).

Fetchmail and procmail are simple to setup and since you're running them locally you can add other filters like spamassasin or a virus scanner so you only forward mail that's at least semi-real.

Alot of other mail services will also allow you the option to automatically forward email. And of course then it's smart enough to send it from the original sender and not from you. Does the email provider you're looking to get the mail from not do this?

Oh, I that that we were talking about an average end user here...

The average user should be fine with the forwarding options that nearly every provider already makes available. Setting Yahoo to forward to Gmail isn't any more difficult than setting Gmail to poll Yahoo.

Correct, setting Yahoo to forward to Gmail would work just fine.

However... since when does nearly every provider make that available? None of the local ISPs around here make that available...

gmail doesnt have a retrieve system but does have forwarding, yahoo doesnt have forwarding but have a retrieve system. therefore i cant forward yahoo mail to gmail unless i upgrade yahoo mail service. just wanted to view different mail from different POP server without downloading. is there a way to view mail from a pop server without downloading or is that only impa? just currently having problem with yahoo on large mail on the pop server or otherwise i could use yahoo.

Yes, most mail clients allow you to download a message from a POP server without deleting it from the server. Is there any reason you *must* use gmail? You could use mail2web if you just need to use a POP/IMAP server, and not necessarily gmail.
