Can you Restore Windows XP Not Using Windows's System Restore

My windows system restore is broken; everytime I have tried to run it, it tells me that "Windows System Restore Can Not Protect Your Computer. Restart and Try Again." However no matter how many times I restart it does not work; I've tried running it from Safe Mode, and Safe Mode w/command prompt as well as Windows itself. Is there any program out there that can do what Windows System Restore does just so I can restore and hopefully fix the problem? I know I have quite a few system restore points on my Hard Drive I just need something to be able to restore them heh.

Thanks!

Never seen that error message before. Write down the error word-for-word and run it through Google.

I tried that, and most of the solutions consist of running a Windows XP repair install(from the CD), but when I try that it just messes things up more and I get back to the samee point that I'm at now.

If system restore cannot start it may be symptoms of a larger problem.

I would focus my efforts on looking for viruses/spyware/etc. that are interfering with (or purposly disabling) system restore.

You can do quite a bit of manual restoring from system restore points from recovery console.

Why don't you start by listing your system specs and the problem you are having.
