quick question... i want to buy a manual transmission car but i don't know how to drive stick. i was wondering if rental agencies have manual transmission cars that they rent out so that i can practice on it? does anyone know? thanks...

Not in the States.

Unless it's like that Budget place in Venice/Marina Del Ray that rents cars like Porsche, Ferrari, etc. for huge sums of money per day. 😀

Not many do and if they do they are sports cars like vettes and whatnot.

They really don't want to have you burn up the clutch as you learn.

When I sold cars I used to alway teach my customers how to drive a stick it usually took about an hour.

Generally not in regular rental car places... i'm sure they've thought of people like you before. 😉

Beverly Hills rent-a-car rents out little roadsters like the MR2 Spyder for cheap though... well not really cheap like $40 cheap but cheap compared to the Ferraris and Porsches they also rent out. 😀

so just ask the dealer that i buy the car from? hmm... that's a possibility b/c the dealer that i'm working with is really nice as well.

I see you're in cali. if you live close to the border, you should have no trouble renting a manual car in mexico.

That's how I did it. They'll do anything to make the sale. Just don't do it on the one you intent to buy.

😀

Do you have a friend or family member with a stick-shift car that they'll be willing to let you learn on? They can sit in the passenger seat and coach you. That would probably be the best thing to do.

yeah i have a few friends... but i thought you needed about a week to fully learn. so i thought i would rent a car and give myself a few days to feel very comfortable driving the new car.

edit: fully learn as in almost never stalling...

It should take you at most a few hours to learn. I mean, the concept of how to shift shouldn't be hard, it's just getting the feel that's tough in the beginning.

If it takes you a whole week to learn, then call me up before you go driving so I know to get off the road!
