And I really need to invest in some Heavy duty, high quality, expensive, waterproof winter socks.
I dont know where I can buy these though and I dont know what type, brand to buy.
When im working outside if I had some great miracle working socks it wouldn't be so bad.

Any advice is appreciated.

skiing socks?? I'm sure you can find some that you like at your local skiing store (Any Mountain, REI). I also like to use liners with them as well. But that's just me.

But is there some type, brand that is far superior to the rest?
I have tried a few different ones and nothing works so far.

I would seriously pay $100 a pair if I could get some excellent socks that are guaranteed to keep you warm.

So whats the absolute best on the market?

LOL! I'm sorry to sound snotty, but when I read your sub-topic it made me want to break out some teva's and a pair of khaki's :) My thermometer currently reads -20F, and this is an unusually warm winter.

Ok all "bragging" aside, I'd recommend a polypelene first layer to wic away moisture. This is a must because your feet will start out hot with what I'm about to recomend and freeze once they start to sweat.

The outer layer should be wool, or something of that variety. Ski socks might do, but you might want to consider something a bit thicker if you're not wearing an insulated boot (which I highyl recommend you do.)

Moral of the story, though, is that foot moisture is your enemy in cold weather so please heed my polypro reccomendation.

Hope this helps.

As a cold weather hunter, I can attest to the moisture thing. If you want to keep your feet warm, spray them with anti-persperant, then a thin polypropylene sock. Cover with a thick 100% wool sock, no COTTON! This usually does it for me in a tree stand during the winter.

I have a pair of the Cabela's socks from Wal-marts sporting goods department, actually they are too good, feet sweat in the wintertime. Fairly cheap and warm as well. Bout 7 dollars for 2 pairs i think.

Yeah... 20 degrees is not that bad...

My little brother swears by the Cabela's socks that Walmart has.

I use wool Carhartt socks that I bought down at Feed & Supply :-

Interesting. I'll second the wool recommendation. There is nothing better than wool AND insulated boots.

The person who said "NO COTTON!" was only referring to the outer layer.

If you want to be cheap, (although that is not neccessary anymore) thin COTTON sock wrapped in a thick wool sock will do the trick. Cotton wicks wickedly.

So basically, thin cotton or polywhatever, with a good thick Wool outer layer will do you right.

Dunno if it adds credibility, but I'm a Canuck, and we've managed for 300 years without polywhatever.
