Can you recommend a good SLR case that doesn't require lens removal?

We have an e-520 and I'm looking for a case that doesn't require the lens to come off, because that just adds a slight extra step/hassle. Trying to keep price around $40 :)

I have had several SLR cases, and none require lens removal. Two were backpacks, but this Lowepro is my very favorite.

The side lens cases are add-ons.

Lowepro makes excellent toploaders - can accommodate just about any lens.

Amazon stocks 'em all. Google topload camera bag.

I like that one too. It is the off-trail, right?

THat one looks a little different than mine though, is it the off-trail 1? I have the off-trail 2. I like the modularity and the fact that it goes around the waist. Easy to get to lenses if you want to swap.

Thanks, guys. In typical form I have one last caveat: I'd like it to hold a flash, too. So, the camera with a standard size lens but must hold a flash, too. Does that 2 M home hold on? It looks like it might not fit.

I dont think you will be getting a flash in the 2 million dollar home with the camera, but the slightly larger 3 million dollar home will, and I know for sure the 4 million dollar home will (that is my small bag, but it will hold my 7d with lens, extra lens, and my flash).

You can also add one of the smaller crumpler bags, like one of the "bundles" on the side of their existing bag with the velcro straps on them to hold extra accesories. I have a large bundle that I use to hold a lens (more than enough room to hold a flash) that I attach to either bag when I want to bring it. That could work too. Going to be more than $40 though.

I can take some pictures of mine if you would like.

Get a 3 or 4 million dollar home with a side bag. I used to have a 6M with a "Baby Scarer" on the side to hold a little P&S camera. Currently I have a 7M Home that holds a Gripped 40D, 2 additional lenses, 2 flashes, and a lot of accessories.

Not sure about the name - I've had it for about 3 years. It can be carried two ways - shoulder or waist belt or both. It does make lens changes easy. I carry usually three lenses and a flash and spare battery, caps, and memory for my EOS-5D. Here's another view:

I still need to find my 4MDH, which is around here somewhere, but here are some pics of my 6MDH with my "Bundle" on the side. Both have the same excellent build quality, and are similar in design, the 4MDH is just smaller.

The bag, read to go - http://img511.imageshack.us/img511/8765/crumpler6mdh001resize.jpg

Side view with the Bundle - http://img402.imageshack.us/img402/6796/crumpler6mdh002resize.jpg

Bundle detached - http://img687.imageshack.us/img687/4357/crumpler6mdh003resize.jpg

Inside the 6MDH with gear - http://img413.imageshack.us/img413/6207/crumpler6mdh006resize.jpg

Inside the 6MDH with gear removed - http://img406.imageshack.us/img406/2381/crumpler6mdh010resize.jpg

Inside the bundle - http://img28.imageshack.us/img28/3695/crumpler6mdh004resize.jpg

All gear removed - http://img86.imageshack.us/img86/9402/crumpler6mdh007resize.jpg

The 6MDH itself holds my 7D with 17-40 lens with hood reversed, 70-200 F/4L with hood reversed, 430EXII flash, filter pouch, blower, two memory cards, remote switch, extra battery, lens cloths and pen, filter cleaning solution, and extra batteries for the flash. The Bundle nicely fits my Tamron 28-75 f/2.8 with hood reversed.

My 4MDH holds my 7D with lens, my 430EXII flash, the tamron lens, and the memory cards, remote switch, lens cloths, and the extra batteries.

I also have a lowepro slingshot 100, but I only really use that when I am doing some long hikes in the wilderness.

Ahh, ok. That looks more like their "outback."

Thanks for the pics. I'm going to go for the 4 million home and I think that should work for the camera, lens, and flash. I'll get a side bundle if necessary but probably won't be!

So I read this thread and thought I could get away with a 2 Million Dollar Home for my D5000 with the kit lens. And it fits. But if I have even a slightly longer lens, it will get ugly.

So I'm 99% sure I'm going to return the 2 Million Dollar Home, but I'm not really looking to spend $65 on the 4 Million Dollar Home.

Can anyone point out a less expensive bag that will hold my D5000 with a long lens attached? Bonus points if it will hold a second lens and flash, thinking towards the future.

I have a Lowepro Adventure 170 that holds my Pentax K-x w/DA 55-300mm lens attached easily, as well as the 18-55mm lens, M 50/1.7 lens, AF360 flash, batteries, SD cards, blower, brush, etc. It's cheapish ($35 @ Best Buy) and not good-looking, but it's OK.

4MDH is small, but will hold your camera + extra lens if you need. Basically not much room if you plan on expanding your lens lineup.

I used to hold the following in my 5MDH:

- Rebel T1i w/ lens (either 18-55 or 55-250)
- 18-55/55-250 (whichever wasn't attached)
- Nifty Fifty
- 28/1.8

I even managed to lay my 430 EXII on top.

And during my Vegas trip when I didn't have my 430EX II there, I also stuffed a Tokina 11-16/2.8 in there.

But all of this is STUFFING. It's not the best way to go about things. Stacking lenses, putting things in gaps. I learned the hard way when my Nifty Fifty dropped TWICE. The first time it was ok. The 2nd time. It went SPLAT.

Now I carry a T1i w/ 17-55/2.8 IS and a 28/1.8 + 430 EXII or swap out the 28/1.8 with a 55-250. No more stuffing crazy amounts of lenses in there.

Honestly the Crumpelr bags are a little expensive, but go a LONG way. I remember a thread on POTN where people were buying the knock off 7MDH bags. They're really good. I think I could almost use a 7MDH at this point. 6MDH definitely.

Thanks, I'll give it a look. $35 for what I need is fine and I don't much care about looks ;)

My K-x w/DA 55-300 attached is 7.3" from eyecup to lens tip. I'd say the 170 could accommodate a body+lens setup at least 1" longer, maybe 2".

I agree, the build quality is great. But considering how relatively little it will get toted to and fro, I can't justify the cost right now. I might eventually pick up the 3MDH as a camera+lens only out & about bag.

Many thanks. I think I'm sold on the Adventura 170 - I checked 'em out on their site. Might go take a look at them in person at Best Buy

My 5MDH works out pretty well when I'm carrying around my camera and an extra lens or two and/or a flash.

I've used something like : http://www.amazon.com/Lowepro-Toploa...0615208&sr=8-5 : to carry around just the DSLR and one lens. I think I bought it for around 15 at a camera store.

Sometimes if I want to carry everything I own (all my lenses/flashes in the 5mdh and the camera + 1 lens in the lowepro)
