I'd buy a canon...not sure which model but they seem to stick out as the best to me. I could be wrong though.

A digital camcorder for not much money? I'll recommend one when they exist. --But if I were in the market, I'd go for Sony Digital8.

DesignDawg: How did you come up with that recommendation? Not trying to slam you but....

I used one of those before and they were dogs. Not really totally digital, just rebuilt Hi8 stuff. It did have firewire video transfers tho. Way too big of a camcorder by today's standards. If looking for its low price, then there are others that are better in that range, that are made by JVC, Panasonic, and Canon. But if it must be a SONY....

Wrong. Sorry. Not totally digital? How so? Just because your computer stores data on a big magnetic disk, I guess that means it's not digital either, huh? And because CD's store bits of data in pits in the surface of a plastic disk, that data's not digital, either, is it? THE REASON I pick the Digital 8 is because it IS IN FACT truly digital, and you are MUCH MORE LIKELY to find storage media anywhere you go. Mini DV, if you didn't know, is ALSO magnetic tape, exactly like Digital8. The format is the only difference. --But which are you more likely to find at any random drug store? Mini DV, or 8MM? Also, if the memory is built in to your camera, you are limited there. If it is mini-dv, you have price considerations, and availability. If you have Digital 8, you can get those suckers CHEAP anywhere, and keep on shooting. It's ALL DIGITAL. --And yes, if you have it on tape, you can still have it on your PC. It is 100% digital, and transfers to your computer the same as any other camera. --And since it's just 8MM tape, you can afford to just keep it on tape and archive it that way.
