Can you recharge Ni-MH batteries with a Ni-Cd charger?

Hi there,

I've got a digital camera, which uses Ni-MH batteries - AA size. The problem is, I only have a Ni-Cd charger in the house. Can I recharge Ni-MH batteries with this one, or do I have togo and buy a separate charger?

Thanks.

Actually, I believe you can recharcge Ni-MH batteries in a Ni-Cd charger, it just messes the batteries up somehow (shortens life or something like that) I had to do that once in an "emergency" situation, and they worked fine. I wouldn't recommend doing it more than once though.

Thanks for the input... the charger I have is a cheap one, bought as a package along with 4 Ni-Cd batteries. BTW, I'm in Canada, so I can't get U.S. stuff...or some reason, all the Ni-MH chargers I've seen around in stores - even Wal-Mart - are around $29 CDN...
