Comparing Duron 800MHz CPU to the Athlon 1.3GHz CPU...
When you just do the normal worsprocessing and watching movie, browing internet, can you really feel, the difference of speed between those two?

Go to a SCSI hard drive you'll feel a big-big difference in your confuser processing but i'll second the ----- you can't make a slow isp improve, maybe tweak your modem string might help.

when browsing the internet even with a fast internet connection, you will not feel the speed difference between the two. Both CPU's will be 'waiting' for each part of the web page to load.

I even have to say that a 650 duron won't feel any different than a 1.4@1.7 ghz t-bird.

My dev machine at work is a total processing monster. I can feel the difference there, cause I have a ton of windows open, I am compiling code, I have multiple database instances open all running queries.

While it is not running like this all of the time, it is nice when to know that I CAN do all of this at the same time without having to worry about the machine not being responsive.

My two home machines, however, are a 700mhz TBird and an 850mhz P3. These are just fine for me at home.

I would say that around 700 MHz, it no longer matters just for web browsing and stuff. My previous system was based on a Pentium 733, now I am using an Athlon 1.2. I can't tell much difference when just doing 2D stuff.

I was running a 1.33GHz T-Bird at 1.54GHz with 768MB of RAM until the motherboard crapped out on me. While I wait for a new board to arrive I'm "making do" with a 700MHz Duron and 128MB of RAM. There is indeed a noticeable difference.

<< I definitely notice a difference between my current system, and my previous (P3-1ghz). >>

That much slower now? 😛

When it comes to typical programs and applications, not really. I mean, you can...but that also depends on how much stuff you load in there.

Like, 2 computers with the same load of info slowing them down, the 1.3GHZ will show an improvement side by side with an Athlon 800mhz...

Also, the 1.3ghz can deal with a lot more as far as not defragging and other things to the relation while STILL performing faster than the 800GHZ.

WHen it comes to games...well...need I say more? hehe
