reguarding that first one; i'd be rather upset if i had to drive that. then again you could always raise the idle to 3800 and just eliminate that chunk of powerband
You could, but you'd be thinking that's some pretty bad turbo lag in day to day driving. Although if it had short enough gearing, it could be pretty damn fun. On the strip? An aggresive enough launch would take care of that, if you don't mind repairing whatever ends up breaking here and there. 😛

Most smaller displacement turboed cars basically look like that first car - though not quite that laggy - that one must have a pretty big blower on it. 4-cyls can be pretty flat too, just look at that ITR. If you took the numbers away and only looked at the lines, one could possibly mistake it for a larger displacement engine.
You'd want to be very careful about throttle position after 4500 rpm. Under that, you'd have your foot mashed to the floor in a deep turbo lag bog and then whoops! right off the track.
A peaky torque curve is normal in low displacement turbo but that lag is a bit excessive to say the least. I imagine they have a monster turbo on it that takes forever to spool up (but when it does :Q ).
