Can you put Delivery Confirmation on a regular letter?

I just spent about 2 hours filling out rebate papers and making copies of everything. I want to ensure that I get every single $$$ back from these rebates. I've got them ready to go and I was just going to put a stamp on them and throw them in the mail. Then it hit me that I should put some sort of delivery confirmation on them so I know that they got there.

So, my question is, can I put a regular delivery confirmation sticker on these envelopes and take them to the PO? Does it have to be some sort of certified mail or something? How much will it cost exactly?

I've got $100 in rebates coming back, plus a free portable cd player. It will be well worth the cost to ensure they arrive at their destination.

Yes, you can get delivery confirmation for regular mail now. (they started allowing it after the recent postage increase) It's like 55-cents.

Is it the same delivery confirmation that is put on boxes (ie: the green/white paper with big UPC code)? Or is it something different? I've got about 50 of those green/white delivery confirmation things somewhere around here....

Delivery confirmation isnt really a good choice IMHO. If you really want to make sure they get it, send it certified.

However, most rebates go to a P.O. Box. Think the lackey that collects rebates gives a damn about "You need to pick up X letter" cards?

All these rebates go to PO boxes.

I'm hoping the rebate company will be like "Oh, these have DC, we have to fulfill these rebates!"

or something like that.... ;)

I thought it was free if you do it electronically ..... ie: with the software ...

u can do a certificate of mailing for the regular mail to proof that you indeed mail in your rebate. i think DC for regular is good too.

This works but I believe it only tells you when the mail has arrived at it's destination and not it's progress along the way.

You cannot just slap on a delivery confirmation barcode to a letter sized envelope, unless it is at least 3/4" thick. Best way to do it for single sheets of paper is to use a bubble envelope; usually these will get near the 3/4" thickness, but you need to pay oversized first class postage even if it's under 1oz. Retail delivery confirmation is 55 cents or 13 cents if you print your own barcode. Still a much cheaper option than certified mail.
