Can you prove reality?

How can you prove, for sure, that what you see is not something that you imagine? Like, I can't prove that the world exists and each person is not a figment of some crazy dream I am having and that when I die, all of you die too.

right?

I think therefor I am.

yeah, but how do I know you're thinking and that you're not just some random person in my dream doing random things?

Maybe if you grew up and weren't as self-centered as a 13 year old, you'd realize the universe doesn't revolve around you.

Edit: Selfish changed to self-centered

oh what the hell man, i'm just doing some deep thoughts. chill the fvck out. prick.

what is real for one does not mean it is real for others.

ie. the voice in my head, they are as real as it gets. but for others, they are not

yeah, let's get some serious discussion going on. if you think about it, there really is no way to prove that you all exist. i'm just in a computer game.

If this is your idea of deep thinking, I'm really, really sorry about how your life has turned out for you.

We all create our own reality. If I want my reality to be a stinking pile of shyt, then that's what it'll be. If I want my reality to be happy, joyous and free I can make it that way.
It's all in the thought process.
What's it matter if it's really real? Does that somehow change something?

No you cannot tell what is reality or not. If the proper electrical signals were fed into your brain you could not tell reality from simulation.

There is a fellow who's name I cannot recall who reasoned we are not "real" in an objective sense assuming that self awareness is something that can be simulated by a program.

His reasoning is that if there is a real universe, then sufficiently advanced beings could run such a program. In fact they could run thousands of programs in order to see how they play out. So if one "real" race spawns a thousand simulated ones, then the odds that we are one of the simulated are 999:1

True? No way of knowing, but it is something to think about.

Thank you for putting my incoherent thoughts into a more concise explanation, WinstonSmith.

Now you can fvck off and die because you are a figment of my imagination, which is nothing more than a computer program being run by entities that we cannot/are not allowed to comprehend.

Now THAT is deep thought. Interesting too. The OP failed to include such content in his post.
