Can you plug a SATA HD into an SAS port on mobo?

Just wondering if SAS is backwards-compatible with SATA, or not. My K9A2 Platinum mobo has four SATA ports, and two SAS ports, and two eSATA ports on the I/O backplate. I would like to use this rig for WHS, which means I want to fill it with drives. The case, an Antec 300, has six slots for 3.5" HDs. But I only have four SATAs on the mobo.

SAS is not physically compatible with SATA, but SATA is physically compatible with SAS.

You can attach a SATA drive to a SAS controller without any issues, but not the other way around as the posters before me have stated. If you notice here, it is one unified connector. Where the separation for power and data would be, there are pins for more power and data. Hence why you can use expanders to connect up to 128 devices. :)
