Can you play XM or Sirius through your computer? Ala hook it up via Sound it on the Sound Card or some other neat trick?

I have not got one yet - just considering it - I prefer XM because - well frankly it is cheaper . . .

(unless someone tells me why not and some compelling reasons for Sirius). . .

Ok I think you are talking about streaming the material like internet radio....

I was talking about hooking the actual reciever up to the computer. . .

The computer in question is not hooked to the internet - it is my personal entertainment system. . .

Sirius has an online feature that lets you stream your account for free over the internet. They have a free 3-day trial. I would buy the service too but it costs too much. Plus I think it's free if you already have an account.

Ok I am NOT TALKING ABOUT streaming to the computer. I'm talking about the satellite sent sound being ran through an audio in port on your computer. That way you can record certain things (like the ART BELL show) that only comes on in the middle of the night, etc. Also my best sound system is hooked up to my PC used as a media center which IS NOT HOOKED to the internet. . .

Does anyone know if this would work?

yeah, i think they have a service for $3.99/month where you can listen on your computer....

just kidding OP,

I'm sure all you would need is a program to play whatever you have coming from the line in jack on your soundcard, and just get a mini stereo to mini stereo patch cable, and run it from your base station to your sound card...

THere USED TO BE an XM Device that was USB. It picked up the XM signal, and fed it into your PC thru the USB port. There was software that would identify the song and artist title, and you could record the music into Mp3 format. It was an amazing tool untill the RIAA said it would lead to piracy, which it did, and they no longer sell them. You can however pay $400 for one on ebay! XM will still grant service to the ones in existance, but as far as I know, they arent made anymore

I do through my delphi skyfi reciever with the indoor house kit, which gives you a stereo miniplug that you can use for headphones, hook up to a reciever, or into a computer.

I have the XM boom box...one could just run the line out to the line in jack on the sound card correct? What would be a good program to record the data?

So without further comment on the hacked cables (I'm not handy like that and I live in the country) - before I go and get a system to be disappointed, I can run the line in and control it with the remote that comes with it. . .

Right?

What he said. Just use some rac to 1/8" or 1/"4 (whatever it is) to the line-in on your computer.
