Can you override an on-board Sound Card?

I have a Gateway OEM computer, and thus an on-board (built into the motherboard) Creative Labs Sound Blaster Audio PCI 64D. It's apparently only a half-duplex card, and I desperately need a full duplex. Is there a way I can get a new sound card, put it into my motherboard and use that instead? Or am I stuck with this crappy one until I get a new computer?

God I hate OEM.:|

I had the same thing was fine for me, anyway. Just throw in a PCI Sound card, and it should work. Look then in the BIOS for an option to disable the on-board audio It may disable itself automatically

Yes in most cases...but u are talking about a gateway computer here....there must be a jumper that u set to disable the onboard sound card...check gateway support for that....

Look in the bios to disable it like Athlon4all said or there might be a jumper on the board itself to disable it.
