Can you not get the 30/month Tmobile plan without getting a kit from WalMart?

I ordered two free kits from Tmobile last week with free shipping. I am about to get both my kids their first phone and use the Tmobile plan. I did a search and saw people saying you have to get the kit from walmart and then I saw some people saying as long as you set it up online you will be able to select that plan. Can anyone confirm that I can get that plan with the kit from Tmobile and doing it online?

I did it last summer after ordering straight from TMo and setting it up online.

Yeah, you can buy the SIM activation kit from T-Mobile and activate it yourself online and select the $30 plan (assuming it hasn't changed since when I did mine).

Just don't go to a T-Mobile store or call T-Mobile to do it for you, because it seems like they can't choose the plan for some reason (learned that the hard way, haha).

From the website:
"This plan is only available for devices purchased from
Wal-Mart or devices activated on T-Mobile.com"

SIM cards count as a device--that's all I bought.

You can do it online. I bought a Moto X (unlocked) and a T-mobile sim and set it up via the instructions that came with the sim card.
