Do you know if one can negotiate for big ticket items? I can pay in cash :)

I need a new laptop asap (usually I buy online at Dell)

    Thanks!

If you bypass the knownothing clerks on the floor and go straight to the manager you might get a slight discount for paying cash. He, the manager, will, of course, require you to buy a 10 year extended warranty. :Q

Yeah I once bought a TV from HHGregg(a retail appliance store, not sure how widespread they are). I went in there trying just to pricematch to the best buy price. The guy said if I could pay in cash he would take off another, I think 50-75 dollars off the best buy price.

At Circuit City, we would negotiate on Open Box items............if it had been there a long time, and the managers really wanted it gone, and we had some profit somewhere.

Like on an open box printer, they'd drop the price to cost, if we convinced them to take the 300% markup USB cable.

Wife's laptop is dying on her... and she uses it as her main system, so we'll likely get a Pentium 2.8 HT

Unless your getting an extended warranty, you won't have very much luck....

If that is the case then definetely buy the extended warranty. Most places allow you to return it for 30 days.

Yes, if you are buying warranty/accessories. They don't really care if you're paying with cash or not. Laptops they have on sale really cheap <$1000 dont have any markup and they probably won't work with you. The more expensive the lappy, the more they have to work with. I would try frys first as they are on comission(only ones).

Ok... TVs yes... negotiate on a PC? Not a chance, mark up on PCs is non exsistant, infact they commonly lose money on them (They try to make it up with accessories and extended warranty).
