Can you make out the lyrics in most songs?

I've noticed that this is a skill that varies a lot from person to person. Just listening to popular songs on the radio, does it mostly sound like jibberish or can you follow what the singer is saying? I usually can if I concentrate, but not nearly as well as some of my friends can.

i cant do it
for bands like system of down, even after i read the lyrics, i still dont know what they're saying

I need to look them up.

I could site a few examples of my screw ups, but I would only embarass myself. 🙂

Exactly. I listen to SOAD, Slipknot, Korn... it's tough to make stuff out. 🙂

I've noticed the same thing. Some of my friends seem to make out lyrics very easily, but I usally have to look stuff up.

Depends on what it is. Most of my stuff I can figure it out, but I look up what people have to say on Songmeanings.net anyway so I can doublecheck myself.

I can follow most lyrics. Sometimes there will be a couple lines that elude me, but I can generally pick up most of it.

I have a hard time picking up lyrics. I usually end up looking them up. I also have a bunch of friends who seem to know all the words to most songs.

There are occasional verses that I look up, but most of the time I get them right...unlike my friends that were adamant that it was "Excuse me while I kiss this guy!"

I will admit that for the longest time I thought the Springsteen song "I'm on fire"
was "Elmer Fudd."
Not a Springsteen fan, so I mostly heard it between the ages of 7-11. That probably had something to do with it.
"Oooo oooo oooo Elmer Fudd"
Made sense at the time.

I was just listening to Karma Police and couldn't make out some of the lyrics. "he talks in maths/
He buzzes like a fridge, he?s like a detuned radio" is what it actually was. no wonder.

Same for me... Most of the stuff I listen to has fairly clear vocals, so I can pick up 99% of it after a few listens.
