Three weeks ago I was driving to the store and a deer was in the middle of the road. I sped up to try and kill it and get some free deer steaks but I only injured it and it ran away. It bent the crap out of the front right of my bumper and cracked a headlight which I replaced already but I think it might have done something to the actual engine block somehow because it's idling wierd now.

I obviously didn't make a police report and I'm just curious if insurance will pay for this at this point. Should I say it was a hit and run that happened recently? I already pressure washed all the fur off of the damaged part.

Note that I usually give at least a 2 or 3 for dumb threads but this one sucks.

Shouldn't matter - be honest with the insurance company. Damage from every accident is not always apparent the first day.

Explain to them you replaced the headlight for safety but you see there is more damage now.

Not an issue.

But, be sure that you mention that you sped up and tried to hit a deer; insurance companies appreciate the honesty and will most likely reward you, with candy. Totes true, because I just said it.

i once worked for an insurance company doing risk management

and length of time between incident occurrence date and claim date was one of the biggest identified risk factors in fraud cases

so i wouldn't be surprised if you get some follow up after filing the claim

Made a claim 2 months after I bumped the garage door due to slippery ice under the snow on the way up to park it. Told them that I hit an immovable object I couldn't avoid and intended to replace the slightly bent panel after winter time/spring. Found out that hardware stores wouldn't sell just the panel itself, but only the whole garage door (7' high x9' wide). Estimated replacement (parts&labor) was about $603. Got a check within 2 weeks, after I sent some pictures of damage and appraiser made a visit.

Its not worth making a claim, IMO. Your rates will go up.

How many miles on the car? It might need new sparkplugs or something like that.

Probably coincidence. I wouldn't make a claim. I wouldn't risk having my rates hiked for nickle/dime shit.
