Yes, Truluck's waiters and bartenders make about $70,000/year.

A good waiter at Nick & Sam's or 9 Grill probably make $80,000/year, if given good schedules.

Depends on the locale and a few other factors. With the upcoming recession, clearing 30K at an Olive Garden would be fucking tough as people tend to cut back on eating out. A bartender at a Friday's or an Applebee's could definitely hit 40 or 50 assuming they work every Thursday, Friday and Saturday. At some of the popular bars here (Boston) the cocktail waitresses and bartenders all clear 500 a weekend night except during winter and spring breaks.

edit: Also one of my buddies worked three nights and two mornings (6 hr shifts) at a Sheraton Hotel and made 40k every year he was in school.

I think the problem would be that as the new guy, you aren't going to get assigned to Thurs-Fri-Sat nights where you would make the most money.

$30K a year is about $15/hour. I would imagine that's a reasonable expectation if you get to work a full 40-hour week at busy times.

well...its not fo rme...if for my gf's sis. She just moved up here and I am trying to get her a job that will enable her to move out asap.

She has an interview at olive garden and skipjacks. She wants to be a server, so we are trying to get her jobs as a server. On a side note, going out to eat with her sucks.

It's just, "that server is a bad server". STFU!!!! I understand being cocky, but dude, it's just a server.

remember, 20% tip should be the minimum she should be expecting. anything less and the tippers are cheapskates. keep that in mind and she'll do great.

At the right location and with the perfect personality (outgoing, likable and having infinite patience) you can do pretty well.

yes...that is why she is so cocky about it. When we were dropping off applications, they had to be dropped at a certain time. She knew because she was an "experienced waiter".

A buddy of mine worked at Friday's and was pulling in close to 35k/yr through college. You just have to work weekends as most have said.

Above 30k a year? Working full time and working weekend nights? Sure, without a doubt.

Absolutely if she's good enough to get decent sections.

Depends on the clientele and the amount of work you get in a night. A busy, high-end restaurant will yield bigger tips than say an Applebees.

You went with her to drop off her application? What is she, 14? Did you hold her hand as you crossed the street?

Yeah that's sort of true. At most places, managers won't even be in until noon at the earliest and they get too busy leading up to the dinner rush to deal with anything.

for every waiter making that there are 100's making less than 20k

Many assume servers make a lot more than they do. I doubt any server in a chain like TGIF/Friday's/Red Lobster is making $50k+ even as a bartender unless they are working 60+ hours a week.

If she's at all attractive she would make much more money as an exotic dancer.

True.
Tell her to expect about $100 a night shift and $50-65 for a day shift. If she wants to make real money she needs to get into fine dining.
