Can you lose your sense of smell?

I think I'm losing my sense of smell. Like, things smell less to me, especially food. My nose isn't congested or anything, but over the past few years I think my sense of smell has declined. Maybe I'm just paranoid. Is it even possible to lose your sense of smell? Fresh cookies don't smell the same anymore :(

If you're losing your sense of smell, I think your sense of taste will also decline a little.

actually...yeah, it has. not as much as the sense of smell, tho, but I think taste is down too.

I had some major kidney problems when I was a kid, had to have surgeries and stuff, and my chemicals got messed up or something. once in awhile I still get sick...I wonder if that could have upset the chemicals and whatnot in my body and caused this.

weirdness...

Your sense of taste is based on your sense of smell, so it will certainly decline.

That sucks...

Definately not a disease you hear much about.

I LOVE tacos! :)

now that I think about it, my taste has definately died a bit too, but it's gotten somewhat better. I remember last year when I went with some friends to a Mexican restaurant, and we were all doing the see-how-much-hot-sauce-you-can-handle thing. I put two red sauces and the green sauce on and didn't have a problem with it, and I'm usually way more sensitive to hot things, but it didn't bother me at all. It bothers me more now, so I guess it's come back some, but it's still not where it should be, I think.
