can you load drivers off a usb thumbdrive during windows install?

Are you referring to the very beginning of the setup where you have to hit F6? If yes, I highly doubt you'd be able to use a USB drive instead of a floppy?

sucks that you still need a floppy for DOS tasks in certain situations

although today there's workarounds such as windows based BIOS flashing(on some MB's) or slipstreaming drivers into a custom Windows install cd.

As for the USB drive option to install drivers I have to concur with Weasel, it's probably not likely with today's version of Windows.

I would say that it highly depends on your BIOS. There is a setting in mine (award bios, if memory serves) that allows me to boot off of a usb device and how to treat a usb storage device. Why not give it a whirl and see what happens?
