Can you jog with an iPod?

I would love to get on eof the new iPods but only if you can jog with it - meaning the bouncing won't damage the drive heads and there won't be any skipping. Anyone know?

And you won't damage it with all the jostling? I would imagine it's like running with a hard drive...presumably not a good thing.

Well, you have to assume that Apple built the thing to withstand the normal use put to a portable device. I have never had a problem, and I've done a lot to the thing. I also haven't read of any stress damage by anyone else. Try over at http://www.ipodlounge.com in the Forums.

Hmm...just checked the forums over there. Seems that in general people are not recommending jogging with it. All sorts of HDD problems. Too bad.

I've been thinking about buying the RIO, and just adding some memory, so, 128Meg RIO, and add a 256Meg stick for 386Meg of MP3's... Should be enough for jogging around.

Althought it would be really nice to have an MP3 player with a 10G of space to run around with.

the hard drive only runs every few songs when it refills the 32mb buffer, so it only runs for about 10-15 seconds at a time, unless of course you constantly switch songs. but i imagine you wouldnt be doing that if you were jogging.

The new ones are using SmartMedia again.

As for my take on the iPod, it's good as long as you don't shake like a wet dog the whole time, but if you're going to be moving around a whole lot, you should invest in a good solid-state player.
