I have a Mini-ITX motherboard that I want to install in a MicroATX case. I want to make a low-power, always-on, completely noiseless system for use as a file server, web server. I want to use a MicroATX case because Mini-ITX cases are ridiculously expensive. You can get a MicroATX case for $12 at Newegg, while Mini-ITX cases there start at $80.

I don't want to install a PCI card (the board only has one slot), nor do I care about whether the back plate fits well. I just want to be able to screw the board down into the case firmly so that I can plug it in.

I lined up the screw holes on a Mini-ITX board to a ATX case and it fits.

Does anyone know if a MicroATX case can fit a Mini-ITX board, or does anyone have a screw hole diagram for all the different motherboard types?

Thanks
Patrick

The mini-ITX mobo is a subset of the ATX as is the microATX. If your case is designed to standard, it should be able to mount a mini-ITX as well. The physical specs for ATX and micro ATX are at FormFactors.org. I think the mini-ITX physical specs are on the Via web site. IDK if the mini-ITX mobos come with an I/O shield for standard cases or not as that may be the only missing item to making them compatible with standard cases. I just looked at a mini-ITX mobo on Newegg and it looks like there is a standard I/O shield with it so you should be all set.
