I have an ABIT KA7 KX133/686A Athlon K7 Main Board. Can I install one 256MB PC133 RAM stick into any of the banks or does it need to be the first one?

Nope it doesn't need to be the first one. The chipset auto senses which slot has memory in it. Sometimes when a stick of memory starts acting up, just moving it to another slot fixes the problem.

i have a KA7 and the manual says start with DIMM1 (which is furthest from the CPU, nearest the edge of the board). However, some FAQ's say that sometimes you can only obtain stability by using other DIMM slots. Overall, i would say it makes no differnce, but my memory modules are:

256MB in DIMM 1
128MB in DIMM 2
64MB in DIMM 3

=448MB.

Are you running @ 100Mhz or 133Mhz?

Depends on the MoBo!;) Many still recommend using Dimm1 first and so on, but, some boards have no requirements as to where it is placed!;) Read the manual!:):) Good Luck!:)

Well... I don't recomment mixing memories together.
Before I had 192 (128+64) mb, then I added a 256 PC 133 crucial CAS 2 in the first slot.
What happened was.... the system was WAY too unstable. Games would usually end and quit to desktop with no reason whatsoever. I removed the 192 mb and after is was rock solid.
Don't mix different quality rams ! :)

Oh yeah, use the fist one preferably.
THor !

im running at 133mhz - all modules are Crucial. The 256MB module is double sided, the rest are single sided.

Agreed. It wont really matter where you put the RAM, but every now and then, maybe once a year or so, I switch them up when I clean my computer :)
