Can YOU identify this Laptops soundcard?

This a shoot in the dark but I've learned never to underestimate the power of the anandtech forum 😀

Info:

Bought in sweden a long time ago.
Manufacturer: Supra Socrus, I think they're gone now.

The pic is big so if you're using ie6 press the icon in the bottom right of the pic to rezise it to 1:1
The text in the pic sais:
"
Soundblaster 16 compatible soundcard
A/D & D/A converter. Full Duplex.
Ms. Win. Sound System & 3D Sound Support
"
This of course doesn't help at all when trying to find the driver for it.
And if you don't know anything about it then you still might be able to help me by showing me a good program to identify internal devices like soundcards on old laptops 🙂

What did you do? Format it and now you cant get drivers for it? Did you try email the company?

Yes I updated it from Win95 to Win98se... and I was hoping it would have drivers for everything and it did except for the soundcard.

As I said the company is no more.

This is just Plan A... I have some more on hand.

But if anyone recognises it that would be nice... or know of a prog that can get info from the card.

Hmm, well I dont know. I would go to a drivers site and post at one of there forums. And do a search. I had a old compaq that had a 33.6 modem in it but there was no driver for win98. I went searching on some driver sites and found one that worked. 🙂

By any chance, do you remember what your chip was named when it was in Windows 95? Otherwise, I think it could be a while before someone figures out what is on that laptop.

Edit: Or, you could also post what it says beside the "?" in the device manager under other devices.

try out the windows creative soundblaster 16 drivers..
if they dont work you can always uninstall them

I have similar problem as you, man!
I have a laptop works fine on win95...but once upgraded to win98 the sound card just doesn't work anymore.
It's an OPTi card.....I even found out what chipset I have (takes me 3 days to find out)...but there is no support for win98.....so that was it.
just speaking from experience....if you want your sound card to work again, go back to win95.

No I don't remember what it said in win95... that would have helped though 🙂

It just says Unknown Device now... and no creative drivers worked 🙁

BTW when the laptop boots up it says:

So I don't think it's an Opti cause they usualy make the motherboard chipset too.. right?
Anyway the CPU inside is also a normal CPU no special portable CPU.

Hm, try the basic windows sound system drivers, leave them at IO 534 or something (the default adress anyway) and try setting the driver to irq 10 or 11.

After experimenting whit all the soundblaster drivers.. and then deleting the device again and restarted the comp it found drivers for it???

Weird... very Weird.... kick ass though 😀

It was a ES1869 PnP AudioDrive soundcard.

Well, since the problem is already solved, I'll suggest something anyway 😛

At www.belarc.com, if you poke around, they have a free service called the "Belarc Advisor". It downloads in IE and gives you and EXACT list of every component in your system, along with all the software and external devices that are attached to it. It's awesome.
