Can you identify this bug?

Apparently there were hundreds of these things in our kitchen yesterday morning... some "guy" the landlord knows came and sprayed, but I have a feeling we're gonna need a pro... anyone know what it is? We're thinking its a termite...

Its hard to tell. But I'd guess its a drone ant, I'd guess carpenter from the picture. During spring time about a million of the fvckers usually come out of the nest to die, only one gets to mate with the queen IIRC.

Could be a termite for all I know though.

One of my roommates said that as they tried to fly they lost their wings, and from the little I've read it seems like that would be a termite... Man I hope this isn't a serious problem. Almost a year ago we had like maybe a dozen of bugs that looked sort of like these flying around, but never any more than that. Certainly not the hundreds we had yesterday!

Here's another picture.. it's hard to get a good one...

Wow, thanks - I appreciate it!

I found the picture (and thread) of the bug from last year (I guess it wasn't that long ago, original thread dated 8/30/2005).

It was determined that it was a winged ant, but the newer bug looks like it's a termite...
