There are some bits that look a bit more complicated than others - any ideas what they do?

If you can identify the model, even better.
 
Cool - would be easier to ID stuff with just a pic of both sides of the PCB.

Is the pic for checking BGA solder connections?

That EDN magazine sometimes has teardowns of cellphones/portable computing stuff with parts lists and costs.
 
What the hell do you want us to identify.. It's a phone, it has a keypad and a screen and a battery.. What else do we honestly need to know??

Shouldnt be too hard to figure out, since its not a folding phone. Im too lazy to try though without first knowing the brand or at least carrier.
 
top round piece is a camera, middle round piece is a speakerphone, bottom left is the charger input, next to it is the data plugs
