my dad has a work computer that i brought to our vacation out of the country to load our digital camera pics... i just got back yesterday so i guess i wasnt thinking, but i changed the workgroup to join my home network and didnt even think about it not being able to login to windows with the changed domain.. is there anyway i can change the workgroup back to what it originally was without logging in? i dont have administration rights so i cant login to that name.

thanks

If you successfully changed the workgroup, then you should know how to change the domain... I don't know if I fully understand what you are asking...

Right Click 'My Computer.' Click properties. Select the Network Identification tab (off the top of my head). There should be a box for your network id and another box that says change(?). Click the box that says change, and you can select either the domain or the workgroup that you log onto...

no.. i logged in (you know in the beginning u do ctrl+alt+del, then enter your username/pw). i changed the workgroup, restarted, and when i log in, it says the password is wrong, amke sure the pw/domain/etc is correct (or something like that, ill turn on the laptop if anyone needs the exact msg.

thx for the reply though

When you log into a domain, the username and password are maintained on the domain controller. If you switched it to a workgroup, and the user/password was not specifically set on that machine, you won't be able to log in.

FWIW

Have you tried his regular userid/password? That should be cached on the machine and work unless it was flushed when you did your magic.

I don't think the cached accounts will continue to work, since the computer no longer "trusts" that domain. You need to know the Local Administrator password. That will let you in, and let you move the machine back to the domain you need it to be in.
