Can you hook up a DVD player to a TV through a Nintendo RF modulator?

Hi there,

Those of you who have Nintendo game consoles should definitely know the answer to this.

I have an older TV set without AV inputs... only the coaxial (VHF/UHF 75-ohm) F-connector. So I realized tha, rather than buying a new TV - this one still has a gorgeous picture (!) - I can just get an RF modulator and hook up a cheap DVD player to it for the second bedroom.

Then I realized that I saw a couple of Nintendo RF modulators in the flea market for a dollar each... so I'm thinking that I could connect the DVD player to this older TV using one of these inexpensive gadgets.

Of course, they only carry video, but I was going to hook up the audio outputs of the DVD to an older stereo anyway, for a semblance of spatial sound (hey, don't laugh, I'm trying to use what I have around the house, instead of buying new stuff :) )

So, will this work or not?

I did that with a Radio Shack unit. I don't see why it would not work

Oh, by the way, before anyone asks why I'm posting this instead of just buying the one dollar item and trying it... it was in the flea market, which is only open on Sundays, and it's 30 minutes away by car.

You might want to make sure the end of the RF modulator accepts RCA plugs - iirc the old NES one didn't - it had a special connector. The SNES/N64 used the same RF modulator - it has a RCA jack that hooks into an adapter which plugs into the N64. But yes, it should work for video

Should work. NES had audio through TV Speaker via RF, so, you should be able to get mono audio via DVD player too.

Well, the way I remember it, the modulator had two cables coming out of it. One of the cables ended in a regular RCA plug, the other ended in a coaxial plug. And there was also a third connector, on a side, which was labeled "antenna" - I guess it was for keeping the modulator hooked in the TV all the time, while allowing you to watch regular TV broadcasts.

I never played with Nintendo consoles, so I don't know if this is a specific model or not... sorry...
