Can you hook a keyboard and mouse to an XBOX w/o modding it?

I cannot handle playing FPS like Halo(which I just got the other day) or games like Goldeneye with the controller supplied with the XBOX. My brain is so ingrained with the kb and mouse setup, that I struggle like mad to play these games. I cannot get the hang of the controller and I was wondering if you can hook up a kb and mouse without putting the modded chip in. I doubt that you can, because you need to assign the keys and the mouse buttons, but maybe I'm wrong. Anyone have an answer?

I have to forcibly lay off of the computer games for a few months to get the habits out of my head. I mean I struggle like a friggin three year old handling the controller. My wife sits there and laughs at me and says "What the hell are you staring at the walls for, they are shooting at you!"

I have the same problem, and cant quite seem to get the hang of a FPS with a gamepad.

I love the controls for Halo, and hate useing a keyboard/mouse. it just doesn't "feel" right. ON the keyboard question, there is a usb adaptor you can get, but only works(as afar as i know) with phantasy star online..
