I'm not sure on the size. I'll be viewing from anywhere from 5-12ft away. Believe it or not, this would actually be the first tv I've bought.

Suggestions are very appreciated. Thanks! :)

Edit: Budget is somewhere between $1,000 - $1,500

I would go with a 37" or 40" LCD

My money would go to the Sony Bravia XBR, but im not sure how much you are looking to spend.

here is a thread for this particular lcd - http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=689997&page=1&pp=30

last weekend i picked up a 40" that does 1366x768, so basically 720p and scales 1080i and video from either dvd or hd cable looks stunning. hooked up the laptop and the wife and i were able to watch some webcasts for her work in excellent detail, and not confine to the 14" lcd on the laptop.

also, since you probably get new cables check out http://www.monoprice.com/home/index.asp - excellent quality cables at a fraction of the cost of anywhere else. i picked up a hdmi, dvi-d and they work excellent. i am going to be ordering a 15' vga cable from them shortly :)

Yes, there is a Frys about 45 minutes away. I'm looking at the ad online, but I don't see that Toshiba you mention. I'll keep looking.

I'd actually prefer to pick something up locally, so if I can find something from Fry's, I'd prefer that.

Also keep in mind Westinghouse makes a 37 inch that's also 1080p, with HDMI also. It will run 1920x1080 res as long as you hook your DVI cable up to DVI 1 on that screen.

I've used it as my PC screen for a while and it's simply mindblowing. I've since moved it to the entertainment room for console gaming.

And it's only about 1499.00 I think, even when not on sale.

Here, clicky!

After reading up on it, there are a lot of people who use it for that. Read here

I guess it doesn't include a tv tuner, so using as a PC monitor makes sense

awesome...i was hoping to get a 37 or 42 and use it for my monitor for 3pcs...but i guess it isnt doable because of input problems?

main PC: DVI-1
server: VGA
HTPC (so i can watch tv): HDMI->DVI or DVI2
would be using other inputs for consoles...Wii (btw what output will the wii have? s-vid, component, DVI, hdmi?), PS3, maybe 360
is this possible?

see your buying for your xbox 360, so there is no need to go all the way to 1080p as it doesnt support it at the moment. But if you are planning to expand slowly, i suggets the westinghouse hdtv monitor. It's cheap and expandable. If u plan to get HD players or even PS3, it has HDMI. Unless you dont have digital sattelite or cable, you dont really need the built in ATSC tuners. But then again its depending on what your needs are.

If only BB had a 10% off coupon and would allow you to stack with the sale price.

There are very few Sams location that has the 37" Westinghouse but its worth a look.(I don't think any in San Diego has them).

Best deal right now is a Sceptre 37" 1080p at Costco for $1299+tax but include shipping.
It has both built-in tuners.
