I know this is stupid and i should know, but i gotta make sure

I am looking at a raptor hard drive to buy and i know they are loud an di want a silent pc, but that only matters when i sleep at night... so my question is... if the hard drive isnt actively seeking, is it producing noise?

I would much rather go a bigger drive too. If you want quite look at Samsung. Seagates are good too.

as have been stated many times before the only reason to get a raptor is if you have lots of money like 1700+ to spend on your comp, if you dont use any hd space, if you wanna brag, or you made the decision before you thought about it to much like me.

to answer your actual question, no the raptor is almost silent when it's not actively doing anything. I can never hear it over the case and CPU fans. depending what you want to do, you could tell windows to let the drives turn off after a certain amount of time....

but you said in your "rig" specs that it sounds like a tornado when turned up... lol if you can even barely hear the raptor over that... thats no good
