Can you have more than one savings account under the same name?

Basically I'm looking to put away some money for my gf since she doesn't do too well when it comes to saving money...;) (We're thinking about getting a place in the future)

I talked to her about me putting it aside for her, and she agreed to it. The thing is that I already have a checking and savings account with my bank, and I don't want to mix my money with hers...so would it be possible to get another savings account under my name, or would I have to have her open up an account under her name and just allow me to handle it?

TIA! :)

Many banks have different types of savings accounts. Off of the top of my head I can think of membership savings and special savings (these may have different names for each bank). Just see if they have a different type of account.

If that is not possible, start an account at a different bank.

Yes

Open an INGDirect.com savings account you can earn a FREE $50 bonus, there's a thread on FW Hot Deals forum about it.

Not really actually...she mentioned getting a place, and I'd like to do it, but she just doesn't have the same type of saving habits that I do so I'd rather do it for her, and she agreed...not that bad, is it? :Q

As long as you don't start asking us for baby names and good places to have a wedding.

like RossMAN mentioned, you can always open an account at ING. and yes, you can have as many savings account as you want, if they're all at different banks. i have 2 checking accounts and 3 savings accounts (3 savings at 3 different banks).

You could just try calling your bank and talking to a personal banker. Or set up an account at another bank. I think you'd be best off having the account in her name, with you being allowed access to it. For one thing, you wouldn't have to pay taxes on the interest. And just why the heck would she want YOU to handle HER account? If you really need to limit her access, ask about a trust account.
