can you have dsl w/o phone service?

I'm thinking of cutting the hard phone line at home, except we have dsl service with Verizon... Is it possible to have dsl without phone? (for various reasons, will not be going with a cable modem)

If Verizon will not do it, can other dsl companies do it?

phone line.. but not service dude.. in my area.. ameritech and ameritech dsl are COMPLETELY separate divisions.. and dont help each other at all...

Um, yes. That's the whole concept of DSL. However, you do not have to have POTS on that line; it can be dedicated for internet access.

That's what I mean, sorry. I sure will have a phone line, but if I cancel Verizon *service*, will they still sell me DSL?

I am not sure, my first answer would be no they will not sell it you.
You might have to actually call them, couldn't hurt.

You do actually pay line leases each separate service (POTS and DSL) so the answer should be "yes".

IF you do , you better make DAMN SURE that your Cell phone is charged at ALLTIMES...


No sense in having firemen laugh their asses off when you come running to the firehouse because you had no phone..

Fireman are cool...don't get me wrong....but they are people...and people WILL LAUGH at you...or at least what is left of your house

ya, when my phone line got cut for a while, the DSL still worked. AND, the phone line and dsl were both run by Pacbell

Maybe what I'll do is to reduce the home phone service to the mininum, so I'll basically be paying just the damn taxes and vague "convenience charges" on the line.

You know, they *still* send me "get dsl for 3 months" letters in the mail... IDIOTS.
