The "Arris" (arris is the brand) modem that comcast gave me is usb and ethernet compatible, however, only the usb works.

When I connect to my computer via ethernet, the 'getting IP address' message comes up then goes away saying that it was unplugged. I'm sure its not a problem with the hardware on my end, and that it is infact a problem I need to solve with the modem.
Any suggestions?

Connecting via usb works without problems, but I kinda need ethernet for my network, since the bridge I currently have set up is annoying. Comcast says that since my modem is up and running and the network I have works, they don't think I should get a replacement.

Cliffs:
1. Connect Comp/Modem via ethernet
2. Get errors that would imply that im constantly plugging in and unplugging ethernet cable
3. USB works fine
4. Needs ethernet for $$$profit

You could get a phone/internet router and hook it up to a normal modem. Makes more sense, you can use a good modem like the SURFboard, and AFAIK, Linksys makes a router that's pretty much a WRT54G with the hardware needed for VoIP and two RJ-11 jacks.
