I'm getting a "family reunion" from an FTP in the form of ".mpg" My question is that can I just go straight into NERO and burn the Family Reunion to a VCD so I can play it on my DVD player? Are there any other steps I need to take?

Yes, it'll work. You just gotta select burn VCD and not burn regular data files. Use the wizard if you unsure.

It should work fine. You can always use VCDgear to convert the file, too.

Just gotta make sure the mpg is mpeg-1. Mpeg-2 is svcd (xvcd), etc... and won't work with vcd-only dvd players. I read all of this on vcdhelp :)

Well, I tried burning the movie. With the Wizard and with the Standard, neither worked :(
I have a KLH DVD 221 player it says that CDRW are permitted? Does that mean my VCD has to be on a CDRW?

Hadn't heard of that one...is it better than TMPEG?

Well, I haven't used TMPEG, but:

What is VCDGear?

VCDGear is a program designed to allow a user to extract MPEG streams from CD images, convert VCD files to MPEG, correct MPEG errors, and more -- all in a single step. Initially developed back in late 1997, the program has grown to do various extractions, conversions, and corrections on the fly. Cross-platform support will allow different machines to process and generate output that is compatible between one another.

People requiring the need to transport their video materials will find VCDGear as a useful tool to assist them in getting the video to play on their computer or Video CD player.[/i] >>

It's good for converting stuff like cue/bin files to dat, mpeg or raw format. raw to mpeg or dat, dat to mpeg and mpeg to dat, adaptec and nero image files to mpeg, etc...

Can your DVD player play VCD's? Check the compatibility list here.

Also, in Nero (you are using 5.5 right?) did you select VCD in the wizard? From there you can just drag and drop the mpg file into nero.
