with only 1600 and 4K denominations is it possible to give away left over MS points.

I only want to get Marble Blast Ultra and Poker smash. my nephew also wants MBU and i figure I can get use the left over 400points from a 1600points and get him MBU also.

My gut tells me Microsoft won't allow this but I maybe wrong.

Marble Blast Ultra and Poker Smash, my two favorite XBLA games. :)

You can order 500 points off Live. I do wish that you could buy simply the points that you need, instead of having to purchase predetermined amounts.

As stated, you can't gift extra points (it'd make it TOO easy to sell 'em under the table apparently). You can buy points as a gift for someone on M$'s website though.

I wish they would allow buying whatever amount I wanted as well. I think this is a semi-sneaky way of getting slightly more money from certain people. Like your situation now, as you are forced to buy more than you really want to spend. And since the leftover points stay on your account, you may be tempted down the road to get something else since you have 400 leftover points. But then you'll have to get more than you want (again) and the whole cycle continues.

It also has to do with the standard credit card fee per transaction. If MS allowed you to buy points in increments of 80, they would lose a lot of $$$ to the credit card companies.

You can use your point to buy mp3 via Zune. I think most songs are 79 points.

And at the end of the cycle is basically the gift card strategy. They are probably banking on people not using all of their points, so they will make money just from unused points.

I have to give credit to Sony for being the only console this generation that didn't use the points scheme. Things are simply priced in dollars, and although you can store money in your 'wallet', you can buy anything you want for its exact price.
