IE 5.5 sickens me... I can't tolerate LAG when I'm browsing the web and I'm on a 412.5MHz K6-2 w/96MB RAM. Sorry, that's just unacceptable. :D I can tough it with the P83, it's understandable, but this is only a LOW END machine, not an ANTIQUE!

Win95b + IE4/IE5, Win98 + IE5, Win98SE + IE5 and Win2K + IE5 all run perfectly lagless as far as web-browsing go... And I decide to switch 98 to ME, and I get this crapped up lag? It's sick! At first I just blamed it on WinME, but the folders use IE also, which lag more than normal, and it's IE 5.5... So...

I'm using Win98 Banshee drivers cuz I haven't found WinME ones that work yet, but so far the video seems fine and UT/Q3 run well. The Win95 Banshee drivers work fine, too. But so far anything I downloaded from 3dfx hasn't worked, even if it said "95/98/ME/2000" or whatever including WinME.

So anyways enough about the video, I'll mess with that another time, I want to get rid of IE 5.5 to see if the lag goes away.. I just want to comfirm my suspicions of IE 5.5 being the troublemaker.

So is there a way to wipe out 5.5 and get 5.01 here in WinME? PLEASE let me know, thanks..

WinME sucks - why are you using it anyway? (BTW, I noticed the same lag you did which is why I uninstalled it. And in a coup de grace, WinME deleted my entire C: drive 2 days later even after I uninstalled it, so I recommend a fresh format/install

Internet Exploiter 5.5 works as well or better than Netscrape, imo. Just load up Netscrape and see if the lag times get better...

Then again, you might want to upgrade to a Pentium III. The internet will really go fast then :D :D :D

btw - are you using a modem, dsl, LAN, and who is your service provider. That might have something to do with the lag :D

I think you are placing the blame in the wrong place. I run 98SE with IE5.5 and there is no lag. When I upgraded to ME I got a lag. Did a clean install of ME and still had the lag. Back to 98SE with IE5.5 and no lag.

I've got Win98SE. Due to a few screw-ups, had to reformat a few times. Format before last, I upgraded to IE 5.5, didn't like it. I had more errors and lag with 5.5 than with either 5.0 or 5.01. Formatting the HD is not as bad as it seems, and you can get rid of alot of garbage while you're at it. The GF sent all her favorites to Yahoo, formatted, retrieved her favorites, downloaded the barest necessities, & upgraded to 5.01. Everything's working just peachy now! :) -kd5-
