Definately. Many of the biggest food posoning outbreaks that I can remember are from unpasturized apple juice.

I'm sure if someone in the apple orchard wiped their @ss with the apple, you could get sick from it. Actually, that's probably how it happened. Cheers!

It's highly unlikely the fruit you ate before you felt sick gave you a food borne illness. The VAST majority of food borne illnesses take from 7 to 11 hours to present. There are exceptions but, most of those are the more deadly kind. The soft/spoiled parts won't get you but the peel will.

The long and the short of it is you have a food borne illness from the day before, you have some other type of illness or, Dude, your going to die. :)

E colo, the most fatal of all food poisoning, has been known to be carried in apples that are picked up off the ground, rather than being picked from a tree, because they can fall onto ground fertilized with manure. This is how the Odwalla juice company ended up causing a severe E Coli outbreak that killed two children IIRC.

E. Coli is a possibility if the apple had fallen to the ground and landed in animal (dear, raccoon) feces. This is probably very rare tho...

I was thinking the same thing. Did you wash the fruit before eating it?
