I want to give my car to my sister. She is a single parent and her ex husband is a dead beat dad who doesn't give her or his 2 kids anything. She barely makes due with what she has. Her car is really beat up and she really needs a new car. My car is a 2005 Altima with only 30K miles on it in perfect shape and paid for. I want to give her the car but keep it in my name. Only thing is she has a bad driving record, 1 accident and 1 speed ticket. I really don't want to put her on my insurance I would like her to keep what she has now just drop her old car and add mine. Can this be done if the title is in my name?

You're going to be discussing this one way or another with your insurance company anyway, so why not just call them and ask?

By letting her get insurance on her own, if possible, she may end up getting the bare minimum, or lapsing on coverage, leaving you responsible for any issues/accidents the car is in. While giving her the car is nice, put it in her name and free yourself from this liability.

In my experience, no. Maybe depends on the company? State Farm wouldn't, anyway.
