Not that I want one, I wouldn't mind a 3 or 6 but not with a rotary. But anyways we somehow got talking about this at work the other day, and my friend who does know quite abit about cars tells me you can get almost any mazda including the 6 and maybe the 3 with a rotary engine. He mentioned something abotu a wenkle(sp?) front end or something. I know you can't order them online like that, but he said you can from the dealer. Is he smoking crack?

Since this was revived in Off Topic, I have moved it to The Garage for any future replies.

Only the RX series of Mazdas have the rotary, hence the RX ;). The MX name was given to some of its "sporty" cars, the MX-6, MX-5 Miata, and MX-3. There have been alot of speculation/rumors about a Rotary in a Miata, but it never happened. Regardless, the speculation even continues today with the new generation coming out soon.

Basically, if you want a rotary, you're stuck with the RX-line. I believe this line dates back to the early 70s.

I imagine you could probably PUT one into them. I didn't know there was a Wankle front-end, I though it was just descriptive of the motor itself.

He's smoking some major crack. The only car on the market you can get with a Rotary (and only a rotary) is the RX-8

The lack of torque would certainly eliminate the famous AWD launch...

Bah, just drop the clutch at 6000 rpm and you're good to go. :)

Yea he's on that potent, summer-of-86-in-NYC, "there's-a-new-cheap-way-to-freebase-that-doesn't-involve-ether-called..." crack.

I have a stock 2007 mazda 3 and it has a rotary motor stock no doubt about it ..u can hear it it's like a CR 3000 dirt bike it has a powerband at 6 or 7000 rpm and the motor is loud as hell no custom exhaust ..it's all motor so is it some kind of sleeper someone put in to make look like a stock motor you can hear the 3 turns on the rotary when running so how do I have a Rotory motor I believe it's stock no cap...

I have a Rotory in my mazda 3 it's definitely stock..so I'm confused but it's a rotary was it a mistake at mazda and if so I guess I have a 1

The CURRENT Mazda 3 was never available with a rotary engine from the factory although there have been some made to fit as modifications.

This is almost certainly what you actually have assuming you know enough about engines to recognize a rotary ... you can't tell exclusively by exhaust-note.

Now the Mazda RX-3 from the early 1970's is a different story.

You know, if for some reason someone did put a rotary engine in there, it would not be "stock". And you can just have a hole in your exhaust that makes it sound like that, wouldn't be unheard of in a 14 year old car.
