Can you get a California burrito anywhere else besides San Diego?

I've been living in San Diego for about 5 years now and one of the best perks is the quality Mexican food and availability of 24/hr taco shops. The California burrito is pretty much a standard item at any taco shop around here. I have yet to find it available in any taco shop outside of San Diego. What gives?

And for those that don't know, the burrito usually consists of carne asada, french fries, sour cream, cheese.

We have them in Orange County, CA too. It starts out as this giant plate with steak, fries, sour cream, guacamole, cheese, salsa, and underneath is a giant tortilla. So you eat most of it with a fork, and then you wrap up the last part into a massive burrito.

french fries eh? most places i go to use potatoes. i know, im splitting hairs here but chunks of potato is a little different to me than a few french fries in a burrito.

is the restaraunt called albertaco's? we have them here in mission viejo, ca and fullerton, ca. its one of my favorite foods. its sooooooo good, and it also comes with a free bleeding ulsor, a clogged artery, and a free heart attack! all in all, its a great all in one package.

This restaurant around here used to sell them, but it suddenly disappeared, which was unfortunate because it was open until 2AM and had deliciously greasy food. I guess if it was shut down for health code reasons, though, I should be happy it happened sooner rather than later.

I used go to that albertacos in mission viejo all the time for the carne asada fries when it was 24 hours, but since they started closing at 10pm I hardly ever get to go.

Man I wish it was open right now!

Alberto's closes at 2am on weekdays and is open 24/7 on weekends! $4.96 OTD for a half order of carne fries =)

What you are deescribing is known as a "San Francisco Burrito" (Wiki) any mexican place (taqueria) has a good carne asada super.
We had a taco bell but it went under lol

I used to go to that one all the time too. Then I moved away from Mission Viejo. It started to get lame when it closed early--but all the creepy kids used to hang out there and I think that's why they had to start closing it.

The biggest thing that I miss from CA when I lived there is the fish tacos from a little hole-in-the-wall place called The Green Burrito in the LA area. It was fried fish and toppings with an incredibly good sauce in a tortilla that I haven't seen anywhere since. Granted, I have no idea if the place was a chain or just one store, but even 10 years later I still miss those things and wish I could find anything like it here in TX
